Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and were in communication with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of the player by name in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name Rice by name, posted a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Legal Issues
Rice missed the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people hurt. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, Rice concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
