Jon Ruben pleaded guilty to 17 criminal counts at the courthouse on recently

An individual who contaminated sweets with sedative and gave them to minors at a youth camp in the region has admitted sexual offenses against two boys who were nine and ten years old.

The defendant was taken into custody after eight children and an older person became sick at the location in mid-summer.

The 76-year-old, from that region, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

However, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old boy.

Ruben was kept in jail before a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, prosecuting, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were attending a summer program which he operated.

The defendant played a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and request they to ingest treats "as fast as possible".

She informed the proceedings the man had played this game with the young males "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the next day.

She said Ruben had been able to explain this repeatedly as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had worries in summer 2025.

The legal representative continued: "Recently" his family member had concerns about the activities, with valid cause.

"They decided to investigate in the man's possessions."

The prosecutor said materials including baby oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were discovered, and his stepson contacted the police about his worries.

She stated the man proceeded to play the "candy game" with six boys that time - that Saturday - and they were all sick the following morning.

"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that stage," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

Mrs Prior stated the minors were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the family member notified the police again.

She explained the man then conducted the "candy game" in a room of five youngsters.
