US Social Media Influencer Fined Following Large-Scale E-Bike Ride on Sydney Harbour Bridge

NSW authorities have issued a fine against an American social media personality and handed out two driving violation citations for alleged reckless operation following a swarm of electric bicycle users gathered on the famous Sydney landmark during peak-hour traffic on Tuesday.

The Incident: A Prohibited Ride

A group of around 40 individuals operating electric bikes and motorbikes proceeded along the primary roadway of the bridge, where cycling is prohibited. The riders subsequently reversed direction and rode through the downtown area and a nearby district.

"There was potential for serious injury or fatalities," remarked a senior police official the officer on the following day.

Police indicated they did not chase right away the group out of concerns for public safety but instead located the assembly at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair near the Botanic Gardens, where they dispersed.

Fines Imposed for Influencer

Later in the week, police stated they had served the American online personality known as Sur Ronster, 26, with two violation tickets for negligent driving (with no death or previous bodily harm), with a penalty of $562 and three demerit points each, connected to the bridge incident. They added that the investigation is ongoing.

The influencer is said to have over 3.4 million followers on YouTube and over 1.2m on Instagram.

Influencer's Comments

The online figure spoke with a major newspaper recently after the incident gained traction on digital platforms, stating he regretted giving "the biking community" a negative image.

"I’ll probably take responsibility. It was among the safest gatherings I’ve ever seen," he said. "I am a visitor here, so I’m going to abide by the rules and standards of Sydney. So when I decided to do a public meeting it was not meant to include a ride-out, it was just to say hi under the bridge."

"I’m unfamiliar with the city, it was my fault we found ourselves on the bridge and I had two choices: either the group rides the full length of the bridge and turns around, an illegal act. Or we turn around, essentially, before we’re on the bridge. I chose at the time to turn around."

Broader Context on Electric Bike Rules

The increase of electric bicycles on roads nationwide has prompted increasing demands for stricter rules. A senior government official, Mark Butler, commented that illegal ebikes were a "total menace on the road."

"Young people have engaged in stupid things on bikes since the invention of the early bicycle [but] the harm that are coming into our ERs are absolutely devastating," he said. "We must make sure we prevent these things entering the country [and] officers are granted the authority to take strong action, to confiscate them, to crush them, to dispose of them."

The state reported 226 injuries associated with electric bikes in the previous year. However, in the initial half of 2025, that figure surged to two hundred thirty-three injuries plus four deaths.
